Working in science and engineering gives you a lot of flexibility to move between fields. Most of the people working in my lab are not physicists originally. One used to work on offshore oil rigs, one worked for GCHQ, one worked for a bank. So we come from a variety of backgrounds. The skills I acquired as a chemist are useful to my current job, even if there’s no lab chemistry involved!
